Endgame

Scenic Design

Final project for the Advanced Design class at Wittenberg University. Not built.

Though this design was never built, it was fully designed through the design process. The design team all came back from our initial read through of Endgame with similar words such as “grey”, “worn-down”, and “hopeless”. Through the design process, we kept those words in mind and came up with the idea of setting the play in an abandoned office space or homeless shelter. Both of these settings play into the overall design concept, which is that Hamm and Clov are facing homelessness because a capitalist society (as illustrated through the use of travel billboards) has deemed them unworthy of proper housing and supplies. Because of this struggle, they are forced to build whatever they need out of the trash that is lying around their room.
